This project, with a reduced budget, undertakes a new phase in the enhancement of the Fábrica del Pilar in Motril, addressing the recovery and restitution of the machinery of the Mill Train for crushing sugar cane, protected as a Cultural Interest Asset (BIC).

The main objective is the relocation of parts and elements currently dismantled and dispersed, in addition to the implementation of maintenance walkways that allow various routes through the interior of the factory, including an accessible route to learn about the production processes.

The project also includes the rehabilitation of the Cutting Ship and the discharge channel, and the incorporation of three new elements: a work yard that connects the two levels of the factory by means of a staircase and an elevator, an educational pavilion that serves as a display of tools and spare parts, and a large laminated wood shade house that creates a space for shade and reception.

All of this is done by recycling available materials: old deck timbers to wrap the lifts and protect the façade, tiles from dismantled buildings to cover the pergola, and recycled formwork boards for ramps and protections, thus ensuring a sustainable and heritage-friendly approach.
